Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society
Alpha Beta Chapter
benefits
Approximately 5% of the entire student body is eligible to be invited to join. So, being invited to a very select group, to begin with. Santa Ana College has the oldest chapter in California, having been chartered in 1929! Membership in Phi Theta Kappa most definitely applies to you. However, the first thing we need to tell you is that once you join, nothing else is required. This is especially important if time demands are an issue for you. Yes, there is a $95 one-time, lifetime fee. You would never have to spend another dime if you so choose. However, there is an opportunity for scholarly activities, leadership training, service, and fellowship events. Here are some of the membership benefits which are well worth the membership fee:
1
List membership in the largest/most prestigious two-year college general discipline honor society on your resume. Even if you are not able or choose not to participate.
5
Be part of amazing volunteer opportunities!
2
Access to scholarship applications available to members only.
6
FREE access to Five Star Competitive Edge, a personal and professional development plan for building marketable “soft” skills which will make you more attractive to hiring managers, scholarship judges, and admission officers by showing that you took the initiative to improve yourself as a scholar and a leader.
3
Some senior colleges allow you to apply for Phi Theta Kappa related scholarships simply because you are a member. Others will give you money/scholarships just for being a Phi Theta Kappa member in good standing. To be fair, most of these schools are outside of California.
7
You would be allowed to wear the Phi Theta Kappa graduation regalia, which consist of one to four things: honors cord, honors tassel key, honors stole and key medallion.
4
FREE enrollment in PTKConnect. Phi Theta Kappa’s FREE online search tool for transfer scholarships, colleges and career pathways.
8
Opportunities to develop research and servant leadership skills by participating in Honors in Action programming in local chapter
