Alpha beta chapter
Alpha Beta Chapter was again a finalist for the Student Organization of the Year Award at Santa Ana College for the 2018-2019 school year. While not being chosen this past school year, the chapter has received this coveted award five times in the last nine years.

The chapter was awarded third place in our regional Honors in Action (HIA) Project; the fifth year in a row that we have placed in the top three in our region for our theme. This year our theme was Economies of Everything. The HIA Project combines the four society hallmarks: scholarship, leadership, fellowship and service. This project is the most scholarly program offered by Phi Theta Kappa and includes a potential calendar year research project.

Alpha Beta Chapter achieved Five Star Chapter status for the sixth year in a row and the seventh time in eight years. Five Star chapter status indicates the highest level of engagement in Phi Theta Kappa programs. This an international status.

This past spring, for the first time ever, the chapter received International recognition. Our officer team was selected as one of thirty chapters of almost 1,300 in the entire Phi Theta Kappa to be honored as a 2019 Distinguished Chapter Officer Team. The officer team demonstrated an exceptional atmosphere of teamwork, leadership abilities, promotion of Honors in Action and other engagement in the Society, and enthusiasm for the Society’s Hallmarks.

Alpha Beta Chapter will be co-hosting our regional leadership convention in Irvine with Irvine Valley College’s PTK chapter in October.

Chapter Advisor, Sal Addotta, co-presented an Educational Forum on “Introduction to Honors in Action” at Phi Theta Kappa’s recent 2019 International Convention in Orlando, Florida. He received a Horizon award at the spring 2019 regional convention in Sacramento, California in recognition of contributions to regional and international programming, for the second consecutive year.
